About the Position
Applications are invited for this exciting new locum consultant appointment in Neuro‑Ophthalmology at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH). This 12‑month fixed‑term role offers an excellent opportunity to join a large and dynamic department of 15 consultants covering the full breadth of ophthalmic subspecialties. The successful candidate will join a team that works closely with neurology, neurosurgery and neuroradiology, and the role can be tailored to include additional subspecialty areas such as cataract surgery, medical retina, uveitis, paediatrics, cornea, glaucoma or oculoplastics, depending on your skills and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage neuro‑ophthalmic patients, conducting a mix of face‑to‑face and virtual clinics.
* Provide acute care for urgent presentations within the acute trust setting.
* Lead a mixed clinic stream, typically seeing 4 new and 6 follow‑up patients per face‑to‑face clinic, while supervising junior doctors, optometrists and specialist nurses.
* Run a weekly virtual review clinic, maintaining the overall clinic capacity of approximately 80 patients per month.
* Attend local anaesthetic cataract theatre lists, aiming to see eight or more patients per list depending on complexity.
Qualifications and Experience
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise is required on application. The role is ideal for a consultant experienced in neuro‑ophthalmology, with the potential for further development within the department.
