Kirkwall Grammar School
Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (Itinerant)
35 hours per week
Permanent
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a Modern Languages Teacher to work across three island schools in the Orkney archipelago.
Your working week will be active and varied; some mornings you will go to a modern secondary school, whilst on others you will start at the airport and fly to greet your class of 5 pupils on a small island.
We are looking for a committed and dynamic individual who will enjoy the challenge of bringing high quality Modern Language teaching and learning to a diverse range of schools.
Whilst based within the Modern Languages Department of Kirkwall Grammar School, Orkney’s biggest secondary school with pupils, you will not only teach there, but also in Sanday and Stronsay Junior High Schools. These are some of our smallest schools, catering to young people from nursery to 16 and with a roll of fewer than 50 pupils each. Situated on Orkney’s northern isles, the Junior High Schools have a mixture of resident staff and itinerant teachers who fly in daily from Kirkwall.
You will be a skilled and enthusiastic educator, fully committed to the learning and teaching approaches of Curriculum for Excellence and to inspiring and motivating pupils. You must be able to teach French at all levels, with an additional language an advantage. Flexibility, IT and organisational skills are a must in this varied post.
Orkney has much to offer: there are rich and vibrant communities on its mainland and smaller islands along with an outstanding natural environment and heritage.
