Overview
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia and Critical Care based at the Oncology Critical Care Unit (OCCU) in Withington, Manchester. The post complements a team of 24 Consultant Anaesthetists, 9 SAS Doctors and 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The successful candidate will gain experience within an integrated oncological critical care service led by a dedicated Critical Care consultant team, delivering high quality patient care. Full GMC registration and a Licence to Practice at commencement are required.
Main duties
This 12-month fellowship is for 40 hours per week, with daytime resident medical cover for the OCCU and some twilight shifts. The post provides support for the Cardiac Arrest, Outreach and Acute Pain Teams under consultant supervision. There is no on-call or night shift work allocated to this role within the rota pattern. The OCCU is an eight-bedded unit delivering around 600 patient episodes per year (60% surgical) and is based on the Christie site. The post offers regular supervised sessions in clinical Anaesthesia and time for audit and other supportive activities. There is an opportunity to cover resident night shifts for ad hoc payments dependent on experience. Educational supervision will be provided.
The post holder will:
* Provide daytime resident medical cover for the OCCU with supervision from OCCU consultants
* Attend ward rounds, present patients to the consultant intensivist, and implement detailed management plans
* Hand over care at the end of the day to the on-duty unit cover
* Be a member of the cardiac arrest team and respond to acutely unwell patients as required
The role offers exposure to clinical Anaesthesia under immediate consultant supervision and aims to support career development in ICM, anaesthesia or related acute specialties.

Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Medical Degree
* Full GMC registration
* Advanced Life Support
Desirable
* FRCA or equivalent
* Advanced airway skills; broader competencies in Anaesthesia and/or Intensive Care Medicine (ICM)
Experience
* At least 3 months experience in ICM and Anaesthesia
* Understanding of audit and research importance
* Desirable: 3 years’ experience in Anaesthesia & Critical Care and active participation in clinical research / audit
