Overview

To work under the direction of the SENCo/Inclusion Co-ordinator to deliver targeted support, interventions and provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

The post holder will support individuals and small groups across the school to promote inclusion, engagement and progress.

Term time only: Yes

Salary type: Bucks Pay

Salary: Range 2 11-15 Fixed One Year Contract

Hours: 8.45am – 3.15pm (1hr lunch) total working hours 27.5hrs

Contract Type: Full Time – term time only

Reporting to: Inclusion Coordinator

About the role

Key tasks

Safeguarding:
• Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Working Together to Safeguard Children, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies
• Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school
• Ensure all safeguarding procedures and practices are followed related to the identified child and all other children within the school
• Read and file all safeguarding information given and apply in your own practice as appropriate
Inclusion and Pupil Support
• Support the inclusion of pupils with SEN and/or EHCPs by consistently implementing agreed provision and strategies.
• Work with individual pupils and small groups to support emotional wellbeing, engagement and positive behaviour for learning.
• Encourage pupils' independence, self-esteem and confidence, supporting them to participate fully in school life.
• Follow guidance from the SENCo/Inclusion Co-ordinator and teaching staff in relation to behaviour, regulation and pastoral support.
• Support pupils during transitions and changes to routines as directed.
• Respond sensitively to pupils' needs and act appropriately to reduce barriers to learning.

Teaching and Learning
• Deliver pre planned learning activities and targeted interventions for individual pupils and small groups with Special Educational Needs (SEN), working inside or outside the classroom as directed.
• Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum, enabling pupils to access learning and make progress.
• Monitor and deliver targeted intervention programmes to support pupils' academic, social and emotional needs in line with agreed support plans and/or EHCP provision.
• Implement agreed strategies and adaptations to remove barriers to learning and promote inclusion, engagement and independence.
• Use IT and appropriate resources to support and enhance pupils' learning.
• Through observation and session records, provide regular feedback to the Inclusion Co-ordinator and teaching staff on pupil progress, attainment and barriers to learning.
• Monitor, record and report on pupil engagement, progress and outcomes as directed.
• Support class teachers in maintaining positive behaviour for learning, good order and discipline, contributing to a safe and effective learning environment.
• Contribute to the overall ethos, aims and work of the school.
• Undertake any other relevant duties as directed by the Inclusion Co-ordinator/SENCo.

About you

Qualifications and training

Required:
• GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and maths
Desirable:
• Training relevant to supporting children within a school setting
Experience Essential
• Experience of working within a school setting
• Experience of supporting the learning of children of primary school age
• Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

Desirable:
• Experience planning and delivering learning activities
• Experience delivering academic interventions.
• Knowledge of SEND strategies and statutory frameworks.
• Training in phonics schemes, reading programmes, or behavioural support.
Skills and knowledge Required:
• Good literacy and numeracy skills
• Good organisational skills
• Ability to communicate with professionals both inside the school and specialist external agencies
• Ability to resource, administer and evaluate interventions
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to build effective working relationships
• Good record-keeping skills
• Good working knowledge of the primary curriculum
