Job Summary
Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist to fill a two‑year, fixed‑term post. The role is not visa‑sponsored. The applicant will provide patient‑centred clinical care within forensic mental health, aligning with the Trust’s project to evaluate the impact of speech and language therapy on length of stay. Travel between Stafford and Shrewsbury sites will be required and expenses will be reimbursed.
Main Duties
You will practise autonomously as a specialist SLT within forensic mental health: delivering clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment; making safe clinical decisions; collaborating with multidisciplinary teams; supporting policy and procedure; and providing training and development for newer staff.
Qualifications & Training (Essential)
* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* Health and Care Professions Council Registered Speech and Language Therapist
* RCSLT Registered
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Practice Placement Educator
Qualifications & Training (Desirable)
* Leadership qualification
* Higher Level Degree
* Postgraduate training in mental health issues, learning disabilities, and challenging behaviour
* Member of RCSLT regional clinical excellence network appropriate to specialist area of post
* Dysphagia training
Experience (Essential)
* Extensive post‑registration experience with adults experiencing mental health related difficulties, communication issues, and cognitive impairment
* Experience implementing best practice and carrying out clinical audit
* Experience integrating care delivery across multidisciplinary/multi‑agency teams
* Experience training and developing other Speech and Language Therapists/support staff and presenting at local or national level
Experience (Desirable)
* Extensive experience working in mental health and/or learning disabilities
* Experience working in community services

Contract & Compensation
Fixed‑term, two‑year contract at Band 7. Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 per annum, pro‑rata. Full‑time working pattern. Closing date: 16 June 2026.
