Do you have a passion for working with children/young people but don’t want to work in a classroom setting? It is an exciting time for Bikeability cycle training, and we are looking for a Road Safety Education Tutor/Bikeability Instructor to join our team. We seek candidates who enjoy working outdoors, are confident cyclists, and passionate about cycling to deliver our Bikeability cycle training programme. The start date is as soon as possible, on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2026, with potential extension based on funding.
About the Role
During your employment, we will support your journey to become a fully qualified Cycle Instructor; upon qualification, you will receive a 1st4Sport Level 2 award in Instructing Cycle Training.
This role is on an annualised hours contract, with the expectation to maximize your schedule (Monday – Friday) during term time (38 weeks). The earliest start time would be 08:45 am, and the latest finish time would be 03:30 pm, to align with school hours.
You will promote safe and active travel initiatives by delivering Bikeability Cycle Training to school children. The role involves delivering all three levels of Bikeability Training, plus learn-to-ride sessions, in both on-road and off-road environments, to enhance riders' skills and confidence for complex road situations, following a recognized national standard.
This position is home-based, requiring you to manage your workload and coordinate with schools to ensure a full programme of training. You must have access to a car, hold a valid driving license, and have business insurance for work journeys.
We will provide personal protective equipment, which must be worn as instructed. The work may involve outside normal hours and short-notice duties, requiring flexibility.
You will occasionally attend training courses, conferences, or meetings, and must be committed to ongoing professional development. A DBS enhanced check is required for this role.
About You
To apply, you must have:
* The 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training or willingness to undertake it; Math and English GCSE Grade C or equivalent.
* IT skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email).
* Experience working with children in advisory, teaching, coaching, or instructing roles, with effective communication skills.
* Enthusiasm for cycling, able to cycle confidently in traffic, and motivate others to choose sustainable transport.
* Self-motivated, organized, reliable, with good interpersonal skills, able to prioritize and meet deadlines, and attentive to detail.
