Personal Advisor. Salary: £15.84 per hour (Umbrella). Location: Barnsley. Client: Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. Contract Type: Temporary (Initial 12 weeks, with potential to extend). Hours: Full-time, Hybrid (3 days onsite per week).
About the Role
We are recruiting two Personal Advisors to join the Future Directions Leaving Care Team. This role supports care-experienced young people aged 16-25 as they transition into adulthood. You\u2019ll help them navigate key areas such as housing, education, employment, health, and relationships, ensuring they have the tools and support to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
* Build trusted relationships with young people preparing to leave care and those post-care.
* Support the creation, review, and implementation of Pathway Plans.
* Advocate for young people in multi-agency settings including housing, education, and health.
* Promote access to training, employment, and education opportunities.
* Address challenges related to substance misuse, mental health, and disabilities.
* Provide guidance on tenancy management, homelessness, and family reunification.
* Maintain accurate records and produce high-quality reports.
Experience & Knowledge
* Experience working with care leavers or looked-after children.
* Familiarity with local authority services and multi-agency environments.
* Background in youth offending, residential care, or school-based support.
* Understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable young people.
* Experience supporting young people in varied living situations including foster care, residential units, semi-independent accommodation, and homelessness.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong relationship-building and advocacy skills.
* Excellent report writing, time management, and IT proficiency.
* Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
* Emotional resilience and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
* Comfortable working with both 16-17 year olds and 18-25 year olds (primary focus).
* Willingness to learn, ask for help, and contribute to a supportive team culture.
Qualifications
* Relevant qualification in social care, youth work, or a related field (desirable).
* Enhanced DBS clearance (required prior to start).
Other Requirements
* Caseload of up to 25 young people (average 18).
* Young people remain with their PA until age 25—no handovers.
* Interview format: Microsoft Teams.
* Commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
* Ability to work flexibly and travel as required.
