Senior Healthcare Support Worker

We are looking to expand our clinical team and recruit additional Health Care Support Workers to help deliver the care delivered at Elmleigh. We are looking for compassionate individuals with a genuine interest in mental health recovery and an experienced practitioner who is familiar with the acute mental health setting, required candidates will be confident, knowledgeable, and dynamic.
Elmleigh is a 33 bedded adult acute mental health hospital situated in Havant. Elmleigh is made up of two wards, Sapphire Ward (Male Ward) and Ruby Ward (Female Ward). In addition to these acute wards, Elmleigh also holds a place of safety in our urgent care zone.
Main duties of the job
To contribute and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
To arrange and support patients to appointments and act as an advocate where appropriate.
To demonstrate a good understanding of the causes of aggression, and to utilise skills in the prevention, de-escalation and management of violence and aggression.
To assist in the assessment of care needs, the development of multidisciplinary care plans.
To demonstrate knowledge of the term "professional boundaries" and apply this to working with patients, carers and significant others.
To observe, report and record any changes in the patient physical/mental health and behaviour.
To participate in social, recreational, therapeutic activities with patients and carers.
To provide assistance to family and carers in coping with demands placed on them by the patient signposting them for Carer support.
To carry out observations every time there is contact with a service user as per their needs and care plan.
To promote patient and (where appropriate) carer involvement in all aspects of care.
To respect the customs, individuality, values and spiritual beliefs of the clients.
To preserve the dignity and respect of clients at all times.
To participate in the induction of new staff to the team.
To participate in the ordering of supplies, equipment and reporting repairs.
To participate in professional supervision with senior staff in accordance with Trust policy.

Qualifications
* Maths and English
* NVQ L3 Health and Social Care
Experience
* Experience working in adult mental health
* Experience/understanding of the safeguarding process
* Experience/understanding of risk assessment and risk management plans
* The ability to problem solve, use initiative, and seek assistance when needed
* The ability to work with service users with unpredictable behaviour patterns
* Knowledge of MHA
* Experience working in inpatient adult mental health service
* Experience supervising support workers
