We are seeking to appoint a Blood Transfusion Subject Specialist who will play a key role in the development and implementation of the new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Winpath Enterprise. We are looking to appoint a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with specialist Blood Transfusion knowledge, excellent IT and communication skills.
You will hold an appropriate post-graduate qualification (MSc or HSD with a Transfusion Science specialism/qualification) and have experience in change management processes including change control, validation and developing training programmes.
This vacancy is advertised on secondment contract basis for 12 months. Any secondment must be first agreed with your current line manager.
Interviews will be held on Friday 5th September 2025.
Main duties of the job
Develop and execute validation scripts for the new LIMS
Perform testing and compile validation summaries
Develop and execute training of new LIMS to Transfusion staff
Contribute to change control and validation procedure for the LIMS project
Engage with key stakeholders
Ensure delivery of project within defined timescale
Monitor compliance and present regular updates to Senior Laboratory Management Team
Follow requirements of BSQR/ISO 15189:2022 and change control and validation processes

Qualifications
Essential criteria
•Current HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist
•Appropriate Post Graduate qualification in Blood Transfusion Science e.g. IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in Transfusion Science, IBMS accredited MSc with a Transfusion/Transplantation specialism of at least 45 Level 7 CATS points or MSc in another Biomedical Science discipline in conjunction with an IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in Transfusion Science or a Transfusion Science education course equivalent to 45 Level 7 CATS points
•Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
•Hold or working towards a qualification that supports project management (e.g. PRINCE 2) or equivalent experience
•BBTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science
Experience
Essential criteria
•Substantial practical experience of working in an NHS Blood Transfusion laboratory
•Experience with Pathology IT systems and Microsoft Office
•Experience of analysing data and information and presenting this to a range of users
•Experience in change management and validation procedures
•A proven ability to work effectively and sensitively in multi-disciplinary teams
•Experience of managing relationships with other organisations, departments and disciplines
•Experience of developing and implementing training programmes
Desirable criteria
•Demonstrable experience of IT system implementations or practical experience of being involved with projects
•Experience of working with management teams to influence and guide change
•Experience of performing incident investigations, audit and risk assessments
Knowledge
Essential criteria
•Theoretical knowledge and practical experience of specialist biomedical procedures relevant to post in Blood Transfusion
•Knowledge of BSH guidelines, the regulatory requirements of the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 and ISO 15189
