Overview
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC) provides joined-up mental health, physical health and learning disability services across Gloucestershire. This role is an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant at Charlton Lane Hospital, which provides inpatient assessment and care for mental health service users across three wards: Chestnut Ward (14 beds, Older age Adults with functional mental illness), Mulberry Ward (18 beds, Older age Adults with functional mental illness), and Willow Ward (16 beds, predominantly older adults with organic mental illness).
The post is funded at 37.5 hours per week (full time) with a rotating shift system. Flexible working arrangements may be considered against genuine operational requirements.
Responsibilities
* Assist qualified staff in the provision of nursing care (including health promotion) as detailed in individual care plans.
* Participate in tasks necessary to meet the needs of the ward/unit.
* Assist service users outside the unit/ward to establish and maintain social contacts for extended periods, including driving Trust vehicles where required.
* Support the smooth running of the unit/ward by assisting with the delivery of social, recreational and educational activities in liaison with qualified staff.
* In the exceptional absence of qualified staff, manage the ward for periods of up to 40 minutes (where applicable).
* Accurately record patient information.
* Work collaboratively with Hotel Services and other departments to maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming environment.
Role and Training
As a Health Care Assistant/Support Worker you will participate in delivering care/services as part of a Mental Health and Social Care Health Service. You will follow the Code of Conduct for Health Care Assistants/Health Care Support Workers, receive direct supervision, and partake in reflective practice and training to meet the Care Certificate standards. All successful applicants will have the opportunity to discuss undertaking a Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship alongside their substantive post, including the Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare.
