Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician Intern to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team.
This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this intern will work to ensure that the data center's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems operate at 100% availability while maintaining excellent customer service to internal teams.
The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician Intern will assist with operating and maintaining all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The intern serves as a technical resource supporting Amazon's data centers. Equipment supporting mission-critical servers must maintain over 99.999% uptime. Interns are also expected to drive innovation and reduce operational costs. They are the frontline responders for troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment, including standby diesel generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDU’s, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
This role begins in January or February 2026 (depending on school terms). It is a paid, full-time internship lasting 20 weeks.
Responsibilities:
* Maintain mechanical and electrical equipment
* Assist in root cause analysis of equipment failures
* Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs
* Adhere to safety procedures during work
* Take daily operational readings of equipment
* Work 12-hour shifts, including nights, on rotating schedules
* Utilize internal CMMS for managing workflows and rack installations
Other Requirements:
* Walk uneven terrain and work at heights or from ladders
* Lift up to 49 pounds unassisted; participate in group lifts for heavier objects
* Coordinate body movements during tasks
* Perform physical tasks and long site rounds
* Manipulate small wires and objects with hands
* Work in noisy environments and support shifts longer than 8 hours
* Work in confined spaces like under raised floors
* Travel to multiple sites up to 25%
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Enrolled in or obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or a related field, or certification from a technical/trade school (HVAC, electrician, facilities maintenance, etc.)
* Proficient in English, both written and verbal
* Strong teamwork and time management skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience in project or program management
* Understanding of mechanical systems, HVAC, and controls
