Job Title: Structural Engineer - Residential Homes

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Manchester, working primarily on residential housing projects. The role involves the design, analysis, and delivery of structural solutions for new-build and refurbishment residential properties, including low- to medium-rise housing developments. You will work closely with architects, developers, and contractors to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural designs in line with UK standards and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Design structural elements for residential buildings, including foundations, steel, timber, masonry, and reinforced concrete
* Prepare structural calculations, drawings, and technical reports
* Carry out site visits, inspections, and surveys as required
* Ensure designs comply with relevant UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, and British Standards
* Liaise with clients, architects, local authorities, and contractors
* Provide technical support during construction and respond to site queries
* Manage multiple projects and meet agreed deadlines and budgets
* Assist with mentoring junior engineers and technicians where appropriate
Requirements
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
* 2+ years' experience working on UK residential projects (houses, extensions, low-rise apartments)
* Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and UK Building Regulations
* Experience with structural design software (e.g. Tekla Tedds, AutoCAD, ETABS, Robot, or similar)
* Ability to produce clear calculations and drawings
* Good communication and problem-solving skills
* Full UK driving licence (preferred, due to site visits)
Desirable
* Working towards Chartered status (ICE or IStructE)
* Experience with timber frame and domestic steelwork design
* Familiarity with Party Wall matters and domestic alterations
* Experience liaising directly with homeowners and developers
