Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Act as a role model in all episodes of interaction with Trust staff, patients, their carers and members of the public and manage situations which they may come across regarding barriers to understanding.
* Working within an educational environment. Supporting and reinforcing the values and standards of compassion and respect in care, demonstrating analysis and decision-making skills Supporting in the delivery of educational sessions to Nursing Assistants, providing a clinically and educationally excellent, high-quality service which will influence and facilitate change within the organisation.
* When delivering training sessions and supporting staff clinically, promote that all staff are aware of and adhere to all relevant Trust policies and procedures as part of educational activity,
* Facilitate communication, which results in clear responsibilities being identified within the team.
* Work in partnership with staff from HEI and local colleges and the Care Coach in the development of the Nursing Assistant development pathway
* It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment.
* Use advanced knowledge and skills in negotiating and agreeing level of competence.
* Will be required to interpret and manage complex, confidential and sensitive information
* Network with colleagues within the UHNM, HEI's and colleges to enable delivery of varied education and training programmes.
* Use excellent presentation skills to deliver training and clinical education presentations relating predominantly to the Nursing Assistant skill set consisting of large and small groups. On occasions may be required to deliver to registered staff. Contribute to the design and the delivery of informal and formal teaching programmes.
* Be expected to participate in quality assurance initiatives and clinical governance with a particular emphasis on the Nursing Assistant band 2-4 agenda.

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Current NMC registration

ENB 998/mentorship module or have experience of teaching and assessing

Minimum of 2 years post registration experience

Minimum of 12 months experience in a Band 6 post

Ability to lead change and lead new ways of working

Analytical & Judgemental Skills

* The post holder will need to assist in the analysis of feedback from education programmes and meetings with the Nursing teams in order to support the Care Coach for Nursing/Maternity Assistants in the development of the Nursing/Maternity Assistant role.
* The post holder will need to facilitate assessments of competence using direct, indirect, feedback and questioning methods in order to guide the development of Nursing/Maternity Assistants.
* Monitor and review information from HEI's/Colleges on students' evaluation of education and development programmes.

Planning and Organisational Skills

* The post holder will prioritise, plan workload and organise own workload to ensure that evidence based education programmes are available to Nursing Assistants.
* Contribute to the principles of clinical governance ensuring that quality standards are set and monitored and able to evidence this.
* Ensure that all staff within the clinical areas have equitable access to, and are aware of, recent national and local policies which impact and affect the delivery of nursing/midwifery care; particularly the Care Certificate
* Ensure purposeful and effective learning experiences for Nursing assistants

Physical Skills

* The post holder will be required to have the dexterity and accuracy required for procedures such as: Venepuncture, Cannulation, and Catheterisation etc.
* The post holder will be required to have standard keyboard skills; higher than average ability in the use of presentation, word processor and spread sheet software; projection/multimedia equipment and e-learning resources.

Responsibility for Patient/Client Care

* To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (2018) and to be accountable for own clinical practice and professional actions at all times. Ensure continued and effective registration with the NMC.
* To support in the promotion of a high standard of fundamental care.
* Ensure education is evidence based
* To advise and ensure that nursing teams delegate appropriately to staff who have the proven competence in the task being delegated.
* To ensure that clinical procedures, such as Venepuncture and Cannulation, are performed to consistently high evidence based standards.
* To act as a visible positive role model in the delivery of patient centred, compassionate and safe care, ensuring that Trust values are adhered to.
* Assesses and develops care programmes and competencies for nursing assistants.
* Advises nursing assistants with highly specialist advice
* Participate in supporting a culture of protecting patients from harm and deprivation on basic rights ensuring a safe and effective service with continuous quality improvement.

**JD may state that whilst post holder is based at Royal Stoke University Hospital, the role involves travel to and from to undertake work also at County hospital
