This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Early Years professional to lead a dedicated staff team, support the wellbeing and development of children aged 2-5, and build on the excellent reputation our playgroup enjoys. Run by a committed team of staff and a supportive parent-led committee, Cramond Playgroup is a registered charity based in the well-equipped Cramond Kirk halls. We provide a fun, caring, and stimulating environment where children can flourish. The role is for 27 hours per week during term time, comprising in-session work (typically 8:00am–12:30pm, Monday to Friday) and additional administrative hours. The playgroup follows Edinburgh City Council term dates. The Playgroup Leader will: Provide clear and inspiring leadership to the staff team. Deliver and oversee the Curriculum for Excellence to ensure high-quality early years provision. Monitor and support children’s wellbeing, learning, and development. Act as the primary contact between staff, parents, regulatory bodies, and the voluntary management committee. Take responsibility for compliance with Care Inspectorate standards, health and safety, and playgroup policies. Play a key role in shaping the future direction of the playgroup, building on its strong foundations and community spirit. We are looking for a qualified Early Years professional who: Holds, or is working towards, a BA in Childhood Practice (or equivalent), with the commitment to achieving qualifications required for SSSC registration within a conditioned timeframe. Has proven experience in a childcare setting, with leadership or management experience highly desirable. Demonstrates excellent administrative, organisational, and IT skills. Has outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with staff, parents, and children. Shows warmth, professionalism, and enthusiasm for early years care. Conditions and requirements Education Candidates will hold the relevant qualifications for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Practice Manager, or be willing to work towards these within a conditioned timeframe from appointment (i.e. Holds, or is working towards, SVQ Level 4, or equivalent such as a PDA level 9 in childcare) Experience * Proven management and leadership skills within an Early Education and Childcare environment. * Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of child development and early years learning. * Experience in planning and delivering both indoor and outdoor play and learning resources. * Confident in the use of technology; experience with word processing and spreadsheet packages is desirable.
