The job itself

A Support Worker is required to provide 1:1 care for a child with additional needs, supporting daily activities in a calm, structured, and sensory‑aware manner. This role is suited to an individual who is patient, proactive, and experienced in supporting children who benefit from routine, movement‑based activities, and predictable environments.

The child engages well in active play and benefits from opportunities for physical movement throughout the day. Preferred activities include pushing soft play equipment, trolleys, and prams; trampoline use; climbing; and outdoor activities. Water‑based activities, including swimming, are also enjoyed.

A sensory chew is used to support regulation, and a dummy may occasionally be required for comfort. At mealtimes, food should be offered using cutlery rather than being handled directly. The child follows a structured daily routine, including regular mealtimes and an early bedtime. Drinks are not requested independently, so fluids must be offered routinely throughout the day.

The child is developing fine and gross motor skills through supported play with a trusted adult. Regular changes of position are required to maintain comfort, promote safe posture, and encourage functional movement.

Sensory Needs and Considerations

The child experiences silent reflux, which may cause discomfort and periods of increased physical rigidity. Sensitivities include certain textures and unexpected physical contact. Busy or noisy environments may feel overwhelming and can result in distress or rigidity. Calm, predictable environments that are responsive to sensory needs are most appropriate.
