This position offers a unique chance to drive the growth and development of the Ecology and Biodiversity Team, handling a diverse portfolio of projects from small single-plot developments to large-scale Environmental Impact Assessments. The hub is based in the West Midlands with flexibility on location, ideally within an hour commute of Wolverhampton.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing leadership and technical review within the Ecology and Biodiversity Team
Mentoring junior members of staff
Undertaking field surveys across various habitats and species
Advising on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and protected species mitigation
Contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments and project delivery
Engaging in stakeholder consultation and financial management
Job Requirements:
BSc and/or MSc in Ecology or a related discipline
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIEEM)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Broad understanding of the planning process and ecological assessment
Strong field survey experience across diverse species and habitats
Applied knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
Understanding of protected site legislation and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
Financial management experience at the project or team level
Desirable Skills:
Holder of protected species licences (e.g., great crested newt, bats)
Line management experience
Stakeholder consultation experience with bodies like Natural England
Innovative approach to developing ecological solutions
