Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant position working at Hinchingbrooke Hospital as part of the North West Anglia NHS Trust. Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formally merged with Hinchingbrooke Hospital on 1st April 2017, to form the then new Trust (on 3 sites).
This is a locum post fixed term at 10 months, anticipated to start on 23rd December 2025 running through to 22nd October 2026. Applicants interested in working less than full time or who wish to job share are welcome to apply.
The standard job plan is of 10 programmed activities (PAs) including participation in a 1:9 on call rota for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be working on one site at Hinchingbrooke Hospital though there may be a need for cross site working in the future. This appointment will be made by the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Maternity Departments have been rated as 'Good' by CQC in June 2023. They have fully equipped obstetric and midwifery led birthing units, fetal medicine scanning and high risk obstetric services in addition to high quality modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services. The Maternity IT system is K2 with all 3 modules- Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal.
Main duties of the job
* Report to the Clinical Leads at HH
* Be accountable to the Medical Director
Pursue an interest in line with service needs and an opportunity to provide leadership in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of Obstetric patients.
Care for pregnant women with complex medical problems.
Care for women with Gynaecological problems including elective and emergency activity.
Collaborate in MDT work in Acute Obstetrics and Maternal medicine.
Provide clinical input and leadership in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Liaise with the management team to develop the infrastructure for the provision of the service.
Attend regular departmental meetings and participate in department management and development of the service.
Expected to cover both Obstetrics and Gynaecology emergencies during on calls. On Rota is 1 in 9.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
* MBBS (or equivalent)
* MRCOG or equivalent
* CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of Appointments Advisory Committee
* Full GMC Registration
* Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM or equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering'
Desirable
* ATSM Maternal Medicine or Advanced Antenatal Practice or equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering'
* ATSM Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering
* ATSM Benign Gynaecological Surgery: Open and Laparoscopic or equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering'
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
* Recent active involvement in practical intrapartum obstetrics
* Broad experience in obstetrics and Gynaecology
Desirable
* Experience of Maternal Medicine at secondary provider level
* MOET/ALSO instructor/PROMPT course
* Teaching at post- and undergraduate levels
* Able to perform laparoscopic treatment for ectopic pregnancy
