Design Engineer / Watton / Full-Time Permanent / £30,000 – £40,000

Position 1 Recruitment is hiring a Design Engineer with a strong background in mechanical design to support one of our long-standing engineering clients in Watton.

As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design of hazardous area heaters. This includes 3D modelling, design calculations, engineering documentation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. You’ll work closely with Project Managers and contribute to key development projects within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

* Design hazardous area heaters, including drafting, calculations, and full technical documentation

* Produce 3D mechanical models and detailed drawings using Autodesk Inventor

* Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)

* Ensure all designs meet certification standards and client specifications

* Work with Project Managers to provide design support and project updates

* Confirm interface alignment between heater designs and control systems

* Check and verify engineering documentation for accuracy and compliance

* Track project hours and highlight areas for improvement

* Support training and development of junior/trainee engineers

* Contribute to departmental improvement projects, including the development of standard product ranges and software implementation

* Participate in regular one-to-one meetings for performance tracking and personal development

* Liaise with document controllers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure project flow and technical accuracy

The successful Design Engineer will have solid experience in mechanical design engineering, particularly with technically detailed projects. A degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) is required, along with a good working knowledge of engineering standards, design software, and technical documentation.

Experience in using Autodesk Inventor (or similar 3D CAD tools) is essential, as is the ability to produce accurate engineering drawings, bills of materials, and calculations
