Overview We are seeking a hands-on, proactive individual who is happy to roll up their sleeves and support the team during busy periods and order deadlines. The Production & Material Scheduling Manager will play a key role in planning, organising, and coordinating all resources required to manufacture and deliver customer orders on time and in full. This role requires close collaboration with the Production Manager and Managing Director, ensuring smooth, efficient, and well-communicated production processes across materials, labour, and CNC machine capacity. Purpose of the Role The primary responsibility of this role is to plan and schedule all resources needed for timely and accurate fulfilment of customer orders. This includes: Raw Materials: Ensuring core materials are always in stock and non-core materials are ordered as required for specific jobs. Production Labour: Allocating available labour hours effectively across production tasks. CNC Machine Time: Scheduling and coordinating available CNC hours to meet production requirements. Key Responsibilities1. Material Planning Manage core materials used across multiple jobs using historic usage and weekly stock checks. Place weekly stock orders based on closing stock (every Monday) with four primary suppliers. Conduct a weekly review of non-core material levels and place orders as required. Order customer-specific materials upon receipt of new orders. Typically prepare and place around 10 purchase orders per week. Maintain and follow existing documented material planning processes. 2. Production Labour & CNC Scheduling Prepare a detailed weekly production schedule every Thursday. Allocate jobs to the five main CNC machines and plan expected production timing. Develop a labour schedule outlining which team members will work on each job and when. Collaborate extensively with the Production Manager and Team Leads to finalise schedules. Consider product lead times: Upholstery products 1 week Industrial products 2 weeks Complex acoustic products 3 weeks 3. Order Flow Management Supervise the Production Administrator responsible for issuing detailed manufacturing instructions to team leads and machine operators. Attend the daily operations meeting with Customer Service and the Production Manager to review: Orders received in the last 24 hours Urgent or expedited customer requests Must go orders for the following day 4. Process Improvement Evaluate current planning and scheduling processes. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, communication, and workflow. Implement continuous improvement initiatives across scheduling, materials management, and production flow. Measures of Success Primary Measure On-time, in-full delivery (OTIF) of customer orders. This is a shared objective across Production, Design, Customer Service, and Finance. Secondary Measures Materials: Availability aligns with the production schedule. Production Labour: Weekly schedule produced and agreed with the Production Manager. Machine Scheduling: Weekly CNC schedule completed and signed off with the Production Manager.
