An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 5 Nurse post within the SACT Outreach Team. The SACT Outreach Team delivers treatments for patients closer to home and provides care supporting nursing, medical and clerical staff across multiple outreach sites.
Job responsibilities
* Provide a supportive role within the SACT outreach sites for nursing, medical and clerical staff whilst providing cover between the Chemotherapy Services Units; this will include all other SACT outreach sites.
* Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy and dignity, and being aware of physical and psychological needs.
* Provide clear and accurate updates at changes of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions.
* Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department.
* Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistants, acting as mentor to designated staff.
* Welcome patients to the site/unit and its routine.
* Act as co-ordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patients.
* Liaise with medical and non-medical personnel and community organisations.
* Rotate/work on ORTC SACT unit if required.
* Highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projects.
* Act as support for other nurses on site.
* Assist in providing meals/refresher for patients while meeting nutritional needs.
* Assist in the general housekeeping duties of all areas and help maintain a safe environment; report faults/risks to the nurse in charge.
* Liaise with the nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering; assist in maintaining stock levels.
* Handle patients’ personal possessions and ensure cash/valuables are kept securely.
* Aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of unused SACT to pharmacy.
* Assist medical staff with procedures.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Essential: RGN level 1 or 2
* Desirable: Diploma in Health Care Studies
Experience
* Essential: Qualification in Adult Nursing
* Desirable: SACT experience, Oncology experience, clinical skills
Skills
* Essential: Good communication skills; ability to deliver high standard of nursing care
* Desirable: Understanding of evidence-based practice; computer literacy
