Our client is a venture-backed startup operating in the logistics insurance space. It combines automated insurance products with data insights and risk monitoring tools for enterprise clients.
The company are in the process of becoming a Lloyd’s of London Cover holder (MGA), with support from a well known reinsurance broker for insurance capacity.
This role will sit within the core insurance team and will contribute to risk management, pricing strategy, policy design, and claims oversight. The team operates fully remotely with optional access to shared office space in central London.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage all underwriting and pricing activity across a low-severity, high-frequency product, including transactional insurance lines.
* Build and maintain pricing models based on live claims and risk data, ensuring responsive, performance-driven pricing.
* Analyse real-time portfolio data to identify claims trends and anticipate developments in claim frequency or behaviour.
* Take full ownership of the underwriting function, operating independently across risk analysis, model creation, and decision-making.
* Lead the development and refinement of underwriting policies, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and the company’s future Lloyd’s Coverholder status.
* Interface with enterprise clients to manage initial pricing and mid-term adjustments.
* Support operational oversight of claims, ensuring customer promises are delivered and claim outcomes align with expectations.
* Contribute to regulatory compliance specific to small schemes and MGA operations.
* Maintain detailed technical documentation to ensure audit-readiness and transparency.
* Collaborate closely with product and commercial teams to align insurance operations with broader business goals.
Candidate Requirements
* 5–10 years of experience in commercial underwriting, with a strong preference for shippers' interest, cargo, or goods-in-transit insurance.
* Deep actuarial understanding and confidence working directly with pricing data.
* Familiarity with insurance compliance and MGA regulatory obligations.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment with a high degree of autonomy.
* Strong communication skills, particularly when translating technical pricing or risk logic to internal or external stakeholders.
* Experience in the Lloyd’s market is preferred
* Candidates with prior experience at an MGA or with responsibility for a small scheme are strongly encouraged
