About the Opportunity
Our Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team has supported the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) naval nuclear propulsion programme for over 60 years. Several exciting opportunities have arisen to join this diverse team of highly experienced staff who provide a key role in supporting the safe operation of the UK’s submarine fleet.
As a Nuclear Technical Engineer, you will work within our dynamic, customer-facing INA team, delivering Independent Assurance services to MoD. This includes providing independent nuclear safety and technical advice in support of both in-service operational Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) and future designs, working with a wide range of technical disciplines to offer balanced and proportionate advice.
We seek personnel at all levels of experience who are passionate about nuclear safety and eager to work on some of the UK’s most complex, challenging, and important projects. This work requires knowledge of NRP design and operation, safety case development and methodologies, and effective communication with MoD personnel and stakeholders. We are particularly interested in individuals with an aptitude and enthusiasm for mechanical systems and structural integrity.
For early career candidates, appointment as Assistant Nuclear Technical Engineer will be considered, with comprehensive training provided. For more experienced candidates, we offer new challenges and development opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for ex-RN Operators wishing to continue contributing to naval nuclear propulsion, as well as engineers from civil nuclear or other high-hazard industries.
Our main office is in Birchwood, Warrington, but we work flexibly and will consider alternative locations. While primarily seeking full-time staff, we are open to flexible working patterns for the right candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provision of Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) and Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) of nuclear safety cases and supporting documents for NRP throughout its lifecycle.
* Coordinating advice across technical disciplines to ensure MoD receives impartial, authoritative, and balanced assessments.
* Acting as the point of contact for the customer and attending safety and technical meetings on behalf of INA.
* Conducting work in accordance with the INA Quality Assurance Programme.
* Ensuring compliance with information security requirements.
* Delivering work to meet agreed programmes and budgets.
