Job Title – Technical Manager - Process Engineering - Subject Matter Expert

Location – UK

Purpose of the Role:

The Technical Manager will be a key member of the Engineering Management Team, responsible for providing technical leadership and business improvement in a specific area of expertise. This role involves developing proactive relationships with the Engineering Leadership Team, Design Delivery Managers, Framework Design Managers, Discipline Managers, and external clients, without being on project-critical paths. It aims to drive initiatives and support strategic engineering objectives internally and externally.

Key Accountabilities:

* Proactively drive your strategy to add value to Galliford Try, reporting to the Engineering Leadership Team.
* Respond to business challenges requiring expert attention in your area.
* Provide specialist advice, control, and assurance on discipline-specific, scientific, technical, and engineering principles.
* Utilize your expertise to train and develop Engineers within your discipline.
* Communicate ideas effectively to stakeholders, clients, and colleagues, based on examples or first principles when implementing new or innovative solutions.
* Ensure adherence to all relevant client and industry standards and legislation.
* Support Technical Governance and Assurance as needed.
* Act as an internal disruptor and innovator, seeking industry-changing innovations to improve engineering effectiveness and efficiency.
* Support external consultancy development as an SME in your field.
* Interface with clients on technical leadership.
* Assist in work-winning activities and develop an industry-wide peer network.
* Seek personal and company recognition in your area of expertise.
* Maintain a commitment to personal development.
* Develop and manage relationships, focusing on collaboration.
* Work with senior engineering management to understand wider needs, risks, and opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with Galliford Try’s management systems and policies, including Carbon, Digital, DfMA, and Innovation strategies, as well as SHE policies and legal requirements.
* Promote Galliford Try’s values (EPIC) and support its vision of industry leadership.

About You:

* Subject Matter Expert in a key engineering delivery or strategy area.
* Experience managing internal/external design functions.
* Ability to interact at all business levels, fostering best practice and innovation.
* Leadership skills in initiatives and supporting design teams, including third-party providers.
* Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and collaborative skills.
* Ability to prioritize in challenging environments and balance big-picture thinking with detail orientation.
* Commercial awareness and performance management skills.
* Analytical skills with the ability to quickly assimilate and present information.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
* Engineering background, ideally with knowledge of all disciplines related to project design and delivery.
* Design and/or Project Management experience, preferably in Water industry.
* Degree in Engineering or related STEM qualification; professional membership is an advantage.
* Experience with Digital Technologies and Advanced Applications in construction.
* Proficiency in MS Office software.
