The Endoscopy Lead Clinical Educator plays a central role in ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, evidence based care within a complex and rapidly evolving speciality. This post provides expert clinical leadership, education and professional development for all staff working across the Endoscopy service including Nurses, HCAs, decontamination teams and new starters. The role will be working across the 3 sites – Royal Hospital, County Hospital and the CDC.
A key part of the role is the oversight and management of the JETS and JAG training and accreditation requirements.
Working closely with the Endoscopy matron, Clinical Leads and the wider MDT, the Lead Clinical Educator drives the development of a competent and confident workforce.
Responsibilities
Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of education and training programmes for all Endoscopy staff.
Develop and maintain competency frameworks aligned with national standards and local service needs.
Oversee the management and accuracy of all training records within the JETS system ensuring staff competencies, assessments and training activity are up to date.
Work clinically within the Endoscopy Unit to model high quality practice, support staff in real time and maintain credibility as an expert practitioner.
Devise and lead the delivery of a high‑quality evidence‑based education programme within Endoscopy across the three sites, ensuring annual clinical competency updating as per national requirements.
Coordinate specialty study days, clinical events days and tailored development programmes for individuals and teams.
Coordinate the student nurse experience and support recruitment, education and learning of new staff, including preceptorship for newly qualified Registered Nurses.
Keep up to date with the latest national guidelines and policy changes affecting practice, communicate changes in nursing practice, deliver additional training as required.
Support staff recruitment and retention through effective coordination of educational induction. Organise time to enable all staff access to educational support irrespective of shift patterns.
Develop individualised action plans to achieve required clinical competency. Contribute to Trust Improving Together strategy through further education and development.
Initiate and implement evidence‑based nursing practice. Conduct inter‑professional education to ensure supervised practice of nursing staff, identifying and acting on concerns.
Train and upskill new and current staff in all aspects of Endoscopy, including hands‑on teaching in procedure rooms during endoscopy lists.
Protect patient rights, dignity and confidentiality at all times. Represent the department on appropriate groups and committees.
Facilitate mandatory and statutory training. Liaise with inter‑professional educators to promote a conducive environment for clinical training.
Plan, implement and evaluate training programmes for all staff in the Designated Unit, maintaining orientation and induction programmes and aligning them with Directorate strategy for training and education.
Collaborate with other specialities such as the Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy to develop advanced nursing practice programmes.
Network with academic staff from the University to meet student nurse needs, facilitate allocation and evaluate the service.
Identify and facilitate training and development needs for all registered and unregistered staff, provide mentorship and support for further education.
Participate in maintenance and delivery of JAG accreditation and GRS standards for the unit.
Serve on the JETS Workforce faculty, teaching with the programme and supporting staff in gaining relevant qualifications within JETS (e.g., ENDO1/2). Act as sign‑off assessor for JETS portfolio.
Coordinate and deliver extended working and new ways training packages for all staff.
Maintain effective communication channels within the directorate, liaison with multidisciplinary team, ensuring knowledge base reflects contemporary clinical practice and that inter‑professional educators adhere to Trust policies.
