University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. An exciting position has arisen at Wessex Genomics within Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for an Associate Practitioner on a 12‑month fixed‑term secondment.
Key Responsibilities
* Receives, books, and prepares samples for DNA and RNA extraction across a variety of specimens.
* Extracts DNA and RNA and performs quality control checks on the samples.
* Performs diagnostic tests as directed and uploads results onto the hospital LIMS.
* Receives and uploads results from other Trusts.
* Carries out general laboratory duties to ensure the smooth running of the department.
* Maintains keyboard data entry and manages database and spreadsheet information.
* Collaborates effectively with the team and communicates with stakeholders.
* Applies relevant knowledge of molecular laboratory techniques where required.
Qualifications / Training Required
* A level or equivalent in at least two of Maths, English, and Science at levels A to C.
Desirable Criteria
* Previous knowledge of hospital IT systems.
* ECDL or equivalent computer proficiency.
* Completion of an internal multidisciplinary laboratory training course.
* Experience working in an NHS environment.
* Experience performing genomic procedures.
* Experience in a diagnostic medical laboratory.
* Knowledge of genomic processes.
Aptitudes and Skills Required
* Proficient keyboard skills.
* Ability to handle a range of biological samples.
