The Office of the Vice-Chancellor (OVC) comprises staff based on our Colchester and Southend campuses.
Members of the University’s senior management team are based in the OVC, including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Secretary, Pro-Vice-Chancellors for Research and Education, the Deputy Registrars, Dean of Partnerships, Dean of Postgraduate Research and Education, Chief of Staff, Deputy University Secretary, Assistant Registrar, and the Campus Manager (Southend).
The OVC is also home to three teams who provide dedicated support to the University’s management and governance functions. These teams:
1. provide high-level PA support for the OVC’s senior management team;
2. manage the Southend campus;
3. and, through the Governance Office, support Council and its committees.
The Governance Office provides high quality secretarial support for the University’s corporate and project governance committees and meetings of the executive leadership team, and supports the enhancement of the University’s corporate governance arrangements and its compliance with regulatory requirements, and comprises the Deputy University Secretary, the Head of Corporate Governance, Governance Manager, Projects Governance Manager, Governance Officers, Governance Assistants and an Administrative Assistants. Information Assurance also falls within the remit of the Governance Office.
Duties of the Role
To provide high quality professional support for the University’s corporate governance committees and structures, including the advisory groups to the University Steering Group, and for the committees of the University’s subsidiary companies. To contribute to the development of good governance practices, knowledge and capabilities across the University, and the efficient and effective operation of the Governance Office.
Skills and qualifications required
The ideal candidate will have experience as a committee secretary for formal and senior level committees within a complex organisation. Excellent administrative and report writing skills are essential, as is the ability to work with colleagues across different departments and locations, including the University’s senior management team. You will need to be educated to degree standard (or equivalent).
