Job Overview
The Acute Care Service is fully developed and includes a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), one male and one female inpatient ward, and a Home Treatment Team for Gwynedd and Anglesey. This post covers the Hergest Male Inpatient Ward, providing a substantive consultant‑led acute care service for the two counties.
Responsibilities
* Clinical responsibility (Responsible Clinician) for all female inpatients (except functional OPMH patients) on the 17‑bed Aneurin Ward, Hergest Unit.
* Cover Mental Health Act related roles and manage all female inpatients throughout their inpatient stay.
* Attend the daily Acute Care Meeting to discuss patient flow, delayed discharges and potential discharges.
* Manage complex cases in collaboration with Home Treatment Teams and community CMHTs.
* Provide clinical leadership within the Acute Care setting.
* Develop care plans and treatment formulations, giving guidance on evidence‑based treatment and effectiveness.

Qualifications and Criteria
Qualifications
* MB BSc or equivalent medical qualification.
Essential Criteria
* Fully registered with the GMC and licensed to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* CCT or equivalent, confirmed by the GMC by the date of AAC.
* Approved Clinician status, or can achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12, or can achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
* Evidence of delivering postgraduate teaching.
* Evidence of delivering multidisciplinary teaching.
* Proven capability to initiate and undertake original work.
* Evidence of undertaking a relevant audit project.
* Evidence of commitment and enthusiasm to provide specialist adult mental health services.
Desirable Criteria
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Welsh AC Approval.
* Experience in leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience of community psychiatric practice.
* Experience teaching medical students.
* Evidence of research in community mental health care.
* In good standing with the GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Welsh Language Requirements
* The ability to communicate in Welsh.
