Swan Canning Waterways Branch plays a pivotal role in the management and protection of the Swan Canning Riverpark, as guided by the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006 and the Swan Canning River Protection Strategy. The Branch is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Swan Canning Riverpark and the handling of development proposals affecting the Riverpark.

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Environmental Officer to join our team.

At an experienced professional level and under general direction this role supports the delivery and strategic development of the Riverbank Program and associated Riverbank funding schemes. In doing so provides collaborative project management with foreshore land managers, technical guidance, contract management and maintenance of key asset management systems to support informed decision making. The position also engages with stakeholders across government and community, offering expert advice and contributing to reports and working groups.

The position supports broader environmental management initiatives of the Swan Canning Waterways Branch, consistent with the Swan Canning River Protection Strategy.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following four (4) essential criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.

1. A tertiary degree qualification relevant to natural science, or an approved equivalent qualification.

2. Demonstrated project management skills and experience including the ability to manage and allocate resources including managing contracts and delivering projects on time and to budget.

3. Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships, resolve conflicts, and lead negotiations to achieve positive outcomes.

4. Demonstrated high-level written communication, conceptual, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information, prepare clear and concise responses to detailed enquiries, and develop practical solutions to problems.
