JOB PURPOSE

Whilst on shift and in the absence of any departmental management you are responsible for the whole Finishing department, and you may also have to make decisions in patching / flat-pack as and when required. You will be expected to support the other areas when required. You should look to optimise production output for the finishing department through effective organisation, co-ordination and resource management. Striving for continual improvements in machine productivity and efficiency, waste reduction, product quality and customer service levels. We are a target driven company and performance, and quality targets need to be achieved.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Communicate Company goals, safety practices, and deadlines to team.

• To set and achieve targets in key performance in Health & Safety, machine productivity and efficiency, waste, quality and customer service levels. Ensure compliance with all existing systems, standards and procedures & provide regular performance statistics/ reports as directed

• Support the Finishing Manager in achieving weekly targets in respect of production output, work in progress, service levels and machine efficiencies.

• Drive productivity improvement & standardisation across the business developing strategies to optimise equipment and resource usage for effective and efficient output

• Identify opportunities for improving systems of work, and successfully implement proactive solutions to operational issues.

• Provide training to instil a Lean culture throughout the department, identifying opportunities for cost reductions in areas such as overtime, consumables, maintenance and waste

• Drive through and support the introduction of new systems and procedures.

• Improve customer quality and service levels to reduce customer complaints. Provide quality customer service, including interacting with customers (internal/external), and effectively handling customer complaints.

• Conduct team meetings/briefings/tool box talks to update members on best practices and continuing expectations

• HR responsibility for team, being first point of contact for team members; carrying out absence return to work interviews, first level discipline and grievance meetings. Support with hiring and training of new team members

• Ensure you operate to clear Standard Operating Procedures that are correctly trained out

• Identify development needs of other operators.


PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• Achieve departmental KPI’s

• Constantly strive to reduce downtime to agreed levels

• Meet and maintain customer requirements in terms of quality and output

• Compliance with the company’s quality standards (BRC; ISO; PS9000)

• Adherence to the company’s health safety & environment standards

• Maintain a good overall condition of work area through routine maintenance

• Accurate & efficient control of components including filing and good housekeeping practices


SKILLS/QUALS

• Experience of working within a Printing/Packaging environment preferred

• Experience or knowledge of BRC & ISO9001

• Experience of Leary system’s and data capture.

• Knowledge of BOBST folder Gluers or Vega Gluing

• Knowledge in the Nesting Carton sector or Press tray markets an advantage.

• An understanding of COSHH and IOSH an advantage.

• Essential experience of Lean Manufacturing 6 Sigma or some other continuous improvement techniques

• Strong Management/Leadership Skills

• Strong commercial awareness

• Excellent management and problem-solving skills.


INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

• You must be able to lead, mentor, encourage and motivate the teams, driving forward improvements and changes wherever necessary to meet the needs of the business leading change.

• Good communication skills, tenacity, and exceptional attention to detail

• Strong work ethic, with a positive, passionate attitude and ability to take responsibility.

• Desire to succeed.

• Computer literate at intermediate level in all Microsoft packages, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook/Email – able to produce clear, concise reports, graphs and presentations.

• A full clean UK Diving License is essential.

• Good educational standard and will be articulate and able to present information to a variety of audiences

• Strong Management/Leadership Skills
