Overview

Position Type: Professional/Nurse - RN | Date Posted: 3/24/2026 | Location: University High | Reports To: Coordinator of Health Services | Pay Grade/Days: 103/187 | Dept./School: Campus Assigned | Wage/Hour Status: Exempt/Contracted


Primary Purpose

Implement comprehensive program of health services for assigned campus(es). Provide health services to students. Promote health education and preventive health practices.


Qualifications

* Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
* Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas issued by the State Board of Nursing.
* Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct vision and hearing screening.
* CPR Certification.
* Two years nursing experience, preferably in community health.
* Strong assessment skills relating to student physical and emotional health.
* Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to implement policies and procedures.


Major Responsibilities and Duties

* Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy.
* Serve as a health advocate for students.
* Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
* Coordinate medication administration system for students at school, administering medications per policy.
* Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Educational Agency, and district policy; make referrals as necessary.
* Develop and coordinate ongoing evaluation of the campus health program, making changes based on findings.
* Participate in developing campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
* Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
* Act as a health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community.
* Assess student needs and make referrals as appropriate; collaborate with students, teachers, parents, counselor, or principal to ensure best outcome.
* Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees.
* Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
* Communicate regularly with principal and Coordinator of Health Services regarding health services issues or concerns.
* Review and maintain current immunization records.
* Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration.
* Serve as a resource nurse and provide training to nurse aides and LVNs in clinic procedures per district policy.
* Compile and maintain all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
* Maintain and organize clinic supplies and equipment; request supplies as needed.
* Comply with federal and state laws, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Nurse Practice Act, The Teacher Education Code, FERPA, and Waco ISD policies.
* Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal.
* Maintain current certification in CPR, vision and hearing screening, and spinal screening.
* Model professional, ethical, responsible behavior.
* Provide clinic procedural and medication administration training to campus staff covering nursing duties while the nurse is away.
* Provide basic training on Bloodborne Pathogens, Food Allergies, recognition of anaphylactic shock, and emergency AED use.
* Comply with the District’s Medicaid Reimbursement Program, participate in SHARS billing and RMTS.
* Serve on the Peer Review Committee as assigned.
* Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct the work of LVNs and assigned nurse aide(s). Report concerns to the Coordinator of Health Services.


Equipment Used

Thermometer, scoliometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, basic clinic equipment, personal computer, and copier.


Working Conditions

Mental and physical demands include maintaining emotional control under stress and exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
