Funded by Defra, the Reviving Exmoor’s Heartlands project aims to restore wildlife, river catchments and natural processes across 12,000 hectares of central Exmoor. The project vision is to restore core habitats and create new habitats, encompassing blanket bog, heathland, woodland, scrub and species-rich grassland, and reintroduce lost species like the Water Vole, Marsh Fritillary and Black Grouse.
The Role
As an Ecology Support Officer, you will provide technical and administrative ecological support to the Reviving Exmoor’s Heartlands Landscape Recovery project.
Focusing on completing a monitoring and evaluation database by March 2026, and making sure all GIS data is available, you will ensure that ecological baseline information is presented properly whilst supporting other aspects of the project.
You will manage and compile ecological data from multiple surveys and sources, for the database, ensure GIS project data is effectively managed and shared, and assist in delivering GIS habitat and species data to Defra.
Additionally, you will:
- Support the development of a comprehensive data-management plan
- Assist with other technical ecological tasks as they arise
About You
To be considered as an Ecology Support Officer, you will need:
- Knowledge and experience of the Biodiversity Net Gain metric
- Knowledge and experience of using digital Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and mapping tools, including QGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro
- Administration or database-management experience and proficiency in Excel
- An understanding of data sources within the nature-conservation sector (experience desirable)
- A proven ability to carry out tasks accurately and within set timescales
- A degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant environmental, data or GIS discipline
