Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Stock Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide the duties detailed in the below summary and possess the key skills required.

Main Duties Summary:

* Improve productivity and efficiency across the site whilst reducing costs with accurate day-to-day stock counts.
* Ensure a safe working environment, reporting near misses as required and foster a mindset of health and safety is a condition.
* Management people include training and development.
* Communication with teams and follow chain of command.
* Working and building relationships with other departments to always ensure collaboration.
* Responsible for overseeing activities related to the company's products and services, including placing orders, storing, organizing services, packing, loading and delivery products.
* Meeting all customer orders and securing high quality materials for the company.
* Complete all daily production plans in line with stocks and orders.
* Stock control, mass balance, auditing.

Main Duties in detail:

* Ensuring efficient production processes and product quality
* To manage and effectively control the goods in/goods out area/ dry goods stores.
* To ensure production processes have all stocks required for daily/weekly orders.
* To assist the Technical Team to ensure all requirements of the BRCGS Standard are met.
* To intake and outtakes of chilled and frozen stocks are managed and challenged.
* To ensure clear stock control documentation to allow the site to have clear visibility to buy and forecast.
* To ensure dry goods and ingredients stocks control is managed and audited.
* To ensure traceability and record keeping of ingredients and finished products are maintained in an accurate and correct manner and audit of all stocks completed daily and monthly.
* To assist in measuring the skills gap, devising the training plan for your team to comply with all training needs, to deliver training and record the results when training is completed.
* Manage inventory, packing and distribution.
* Identify and minimize risk by predicting the demand for products and adopting new technology with no interruption to process.
* Ensure good stock rotation is implemented and reduction/elimination of all waste.
* Create a linear productions plan in line with customer orders and review actuals vs planned.
* Ensure clear defrost plans are created for customer requirements daily and weekly.

Safety

* Always ensure a safe working environment.
* Report all near misses and accidents.
* Ensure all staff comply with company rules and procedures.
* Escalations of any identified risks and hazards.
* Ensure correct PPE is being worn as required for the relevant role and to immediately report any defects to the Production Manager/Operations Manager.

People Management (including training)

* To appraise all reports against their job descriptions annually as a minimum and to ensure any training needs are highlighted.
* To take ownership of your Personal Development Plan (PDP)
* To use the disciplinary process as a means of performance improvement and to maintain the policies set out in the handbook.

Communication

* Share information.
* Involve teams in company news and information.
* Use and follow the "Chain of Command".
* Speak to all staff in a courteous and respectful manner.
* Raise issues in a timely manner.

Working with Others

* To assist all areas of the factory as and when required adopting a "can do attitude".
* Help, assist and support staff in all areas.
* Build good relationships within your teams as well as externally.
* ASH cover for production managers.

Team Planning and Project Work

* To ensure structure and skill levels are appropriate for the business in your teams.
* To complete projects to the agreed standard and on time.
* Complex problem solving and collaboration with teams.
* Strategic planning and thinking, systems analysis and evaluation.

Meeting Customers Daily/Weekly Orders

* In-depth understanding of risk management within the supply chain and stock control of the company.
* Negotiate terms and prices with suppliers and freight companies, monitor and assess their performance and maintain cost effective practices.
* Analysing the supply chain data and solving any issues or putting alternative plans in place.

Technical

Ensure all products have.

* Traceability
* Correct temperature
* Correct quality
* Correct specification
* Correct handling
* Correct storage

Key Skills Required for a Stock Controller

1. Inventory & System Skills

* Proficient with stock management systems (ERP, warehouse software, spreadsheets)
* Strong numeracy for counting, reconciling, and spotting discrepancies
* Accuracy and attention to detail to prevent errors in stock records

2. Organisational Skills

* Time management to meet delivery schedules and stock checks
* Prioritisation when handling multiple orders and stock movements
* Record-keeping to maintain clear audit trails

3. Problem-Solving Skills

* Ability to investigate stock discrepancies quickly
* Identifying trends (e.g., shrinkage, damages, supplier errors)
* Implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence

4. Communication & Teamwork

* Clear communication with suppliers, warehouse staff, and management
* Teamwork to coordinate with purchasing, sales, and operations
* Ability to train or guide others on stock control procedures

5. Physical & Practical Skills

* Safe manual handling (lifting, moving stock, pallet use)
* Awareness of health & safety standards in storage environments
* Forklift licence or warehouse equipment experience (advantageous)

6. Analytical & IT Skills

* Comfortable using Excel and reporting tools for stock analysis
* Ability to forecast demand and assist with stock planning
* Spotting inefficiencies in processes and suggesting improvements

7. Personal Qualities

* Reliability and integrity (trustworthy with high-value stock)
* Adaptability to fast-paced or changing environments
* Initiative to act when stock risks or shortages arise
