Job Overview
An excellent development opportunity has arisen in the interventional radiology department for a highly motivated, experienced radiology nurse to progress into an enhanced practice role. The position is full time, permanent (37.5 hours per week) working Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 18:00.
Key Responsibilities
* Autonomously perform fluoroscopic guided nephrostomy exchanges and naso-gastric tube insertions, and provide post‑procedure clinical reports.
* Provide specialist advice on complex interventional procedures and care of radiologically placed devices; lead the gastrostomy drop‑in clinic.
* Review and advise on management of chest drains in inpatient wards.
* Act as scrub practitioner during interventional procedures.
* Perform advanced role of sedationist during procedures and recover patients following sedation.
* Manage emergency situations in accordance with the ALS algorithm.
* Lead pre‑assessment clinic for a wide variety of interventional procedures, including taking delegated consent.
* Coordinate workload, lead risk assessments, audits and line management.
* Support all areas of the radiology directorate including CT, ultrasound, MRI and support services.
* Assist with induction, mentoring juniors and supporting the Trust’s PDR process.
* Contribute to policy and service development, financial and physical resources management, and information resources.
* Maintain accurate documentation, including patient records, reports, equipment lists and safety procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
* Professional qualifications and experience as outlined in the person specification.
* Thorough working knowledge of interventional radiology procedures – nephrostomy exchanges, naso‑gastric tube insertions and chest drain management.
* High level knowledge of all equipment used in the clinical area (excluding X‑ray equipment), endoscopy equipment, bi‑spectral index monitoring and specialist interventional devices.
* Wide knowledge of all medication used in the radiology department.
