About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM 2015) to support a major client site in the Midlands. This role requires strong technical competence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate design risk management across multiple contractors and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the planning, management, and monitoring of the pre-construction phase in line with CDM 2015.
* Identify, eliminate, and reduce foreseeable design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
* Coordinate design risk reviews and ensure designers comply with their duties.
CDM Compliance & Documentation
* Develop, review, and update Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and ensure it is issued to all relevant parties.
* Review and comment on contractor RAMS, ensuring alignment with design intent and risk controls. Prepare and manage the Health & Safety File, ensuring all required information is collected and maintained.
Site Coordination & Oversight
* Carry out and record site inspections to verify that design risk controls are implemented.
* Liaise with the Principal Contractor to ensure safe planning and sequencing of works.
* Monitor compliance with approved statements and design risk mitigation measures.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Act as the key point of contact for the client on all CDM and design-related matters.
* Facilitate communication between designers, contractors, and the client team.
* Provide clear, timely updates on design risks, changes, and compliance issues.
Quality, Safety & Reporting
* Conduct quality and safety inspections relating to design implementation.
* Review and check design drawings, specifications, and reports for CDM compliance.
* Maintain accurate records of design decisions, risk assessments, and coordination activities.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in CDM, design management, or construction H&S
* Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
* Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams
* Project and commercial management experience
* NEBOSH Construction (or equivalent)
* Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
* Work on a critical, safety-led project in a dynamic live environment
* High visibility role with direct client engagement
