Job Description
You will oversee and develop a team of fire engineers, leading the delivery of large, complex projects that meet regulatory requirements and client expectations. This role is ideal for an established consultant seeking the next career step or someone passionate about multidisciplinary design consultancy.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the fire engineering team, ensuring effective workload distribution, project delivery, and performance.
* Oversee the successful delivery of large, complex projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and client satisfaction.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and national leadership to complete projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
* Implement performance and review processes by setting SMART goals and conducting staff appraisals.
* Develop professional development plans and mentor staff, supporting technical growth and chartership pathways.
* Provide specialized technical input on studies and design projects across the portfolio.
* Support and mentor less experienced staff on the road to Chartership.
* Produce estimates for fire engineering budgets and schedules for large, complex projects.
* Lead project delivery on mid- to large-size national and international projects.
* Become an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier and Project Manager, steering strategic project directions.
* Lead technical client relationships, play a major role in attracting new work and clients.
* Ensure health and safety policies are implemented at the workplace and during site visits.
* Promote AECOM’s Fire Engineering business and support the national team in achieving KPIs.
* Participate in development and implementation of a marketing strategy focused on interactive, client-friendly communication.
* Support the development of the Fire Team Business Plan and its implementation.
Qualifications
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Fire Engineering.
* Extensive experience in large, multidisciplinary environments.
* Comprehensive knowledge of UK standards and guidance documents: ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, BS 9992, HTM 05‑02, and BB100.
* Proficiency in fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software.
* Membership in relevant professional institutions—e.g., MIFireE, NFPA certifications such as CFPE.
Preferred Requirements
* UK or other nationalities considered.
* Security clearance.
* Experience with international standards such as IBC, SFPE, and NFPA.
* Advanced degrees—MSc/MEng or PhD in a fire-related discipline.
* Extensive knowledge of structural fire safety engineering.
