About the role:
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing Data & Analytics team at Holland & Barrett. This is a high-impact role focused on building, scaling, and managing highly available, cloud-native data integration solutions and services in AWS.
You will work as part of a cross-functional environment alongside Data Warehousing, BI, Data Science, and Product Analytics teams. A key responsibility will be owning and evolving our Data Lake—governing, managing, and integrating a wide variety of consumers and publishers. You will also collaborate closely with the Data Science team to design and deliver platforms and applications that support advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives.
As part of our transformation to become the leading health and wellness retailer, the data platform is a central pillar of our strategy. We value cloud-native architectures, prefer building tailored solutions over buying off-the-shelf, and fully embrace automation, monitoring, and testing across our software, infrastructure, and data pipelines.
Key requirements:
Technical Skills
* Proven experience with AWS services (S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena, EMR, Step Functions, Redshift, etc.).
* Proficient in Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS SAM for Infrastructure as Code.
* Skilled in Docker, containerization, and virtualization.
* Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab CI.
* Strong programming skills in Scala and/or Python.
* Experience with serverless and event-driven architectures.
* Familiarity with monitoring tools like Datadog or CloudWatch.
Ways of Working:
* Designs and delivers robust, scalable software with attention to performance and security.
* Works independently and drives projects with minimal oversight.
* Communicates complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Collaborates across teams and mentors junior engineers.
* Takes ownership of operational quality and aligns work with strategic goals.
What we offer:
* Pension contribution = 3%
* Incentive scheme up to 10% of annual salary, based on company performance.
* Your wellbeing is paramount, so you can take 33 days holiday per year.
* Learning and Development opportunities with Holland & Barrett for long-term career growth.
* Private Medical Care (self after 1 year)
* Career progression.
* Refer and Earn Scheme: earn money by referring people from your network to join us.
* Epic Extras: access to exclusive benefits, discounts, and savings from various retailers and providers.
* Discounted Products: 25% discount from day one on shopping at H&B, on top of other promotions.
* We offer Free 24/7 Confidential Advice & Colleague Welfare.
* Mental Health First Aiders: qualified personnel supporting your health & wellbeing.
* Stay active with the Onsite Gym at our Nuneaton Hub.
* Colleague Reward and Recognition Schemes to appreciate your hard work and loyalty.
* And many more!
Our culture respects equality, values diversity, and encourages individuality—because this unlocks potential. We welcome everyone who shares our EPIC values, regardless of background, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
