Role Responsibilities
* Social Work Assessments & Interventions: Conduct thorough assessments to identify the needs and risks for children and families, ensuring interventions are person-centred and effective.
* Provide short-term interventions and refer clients to appropriate services for longer-term support.
* Risk assessments as part of safeguarding procedures to protect children from harm and neglect.
* Maintain detailed and accurate case records in line with statutory requirements and Council standards.
* Manage complex caseloads, ensuring timely responses to referrals and appropriate follow-ups.
* Guide and supervise junior social workers and assistants, providing feedback and support to help them grow professionally.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement and high standards within the team.
* Ensure junior staff adhere to relevant legislation and uphold excellence in social work practice.
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including healthcare, education, police, and housing, to provide holistic support to children and families.
* Engage in multi-agency meetings, such as safeguarding meetings and care planning discussions, to ensure effective action plans are in place.
* Build and maintain partnerships with external agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.
* Lead safeguarding investigations and ensure that children at risk are protected through appropriate interventions.
* Develop and implement care plans, ensuring they are tailored to individual needs and compliant with statutory guidelines.
* Adhere to Care Act and Children Act requirements to maintain a high standard of care and protection for children and families.
Leadership & Service Improvement
* Lead by example in upholding ethical and legal standards in social work practice.
* Drive service development by identifying areas for improvement and actively participating in strategy development.
* Assist in the creation of policies and procedures to enhance service delivery and client outcomes.
Administrative & Reporting Duties
* Keep precise, up-to-date records using the Council’s electronic case management system.
* Prepare comprehensive reports for court hearings and other official documentation requirements.
* Ensure administrative tasks are completed to a high standard, supporting overall service efficiency.
Person Specification
* Social Work Degree and current registration with Social Work England (SWE).
* Significant experience in children’s services as a qualified social worker.
* In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act and Children Act.
* Proven ability to manage complex cases and lead social work teams effectively.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working within a multidisciplinary environment.
* Ability to work well under pressure, meeting tight deadlines and balancing multiple priorities.
* Post-qualification experience in areas like child protection.
* Practice educator qualification or experience in mentoring junior social workers.
* Familiarity with local Barnsley services and agencies.
* Demonstrated ability to drive service improvement initiatives.
