We're looking for S'gaw Karen language interpreters. The S'gaw Karen Interpreter will provide accurate, confidential, and impartial linguistic support between English and S'gaw Karen speakers. The primary goal is to facilitate clear and effective communication.
Key Responsibilities
* Accurate Interpretation: Provide professional consecutive, simultaneous (whispered/chuchotage), or remote (Telephone/Video) interpreting between English and S'gaw Karen.
* Contextual Understanding: Interpret statements fully, accurately, and without omission, addition, or explanation, ensuring the meaning, tone, and intent of the original speaker are faithfully conveyed.
* Public Service Settings: Conduct interpretation sessions in various demanding environments, including:
* Healthcare: Hospitals, GP surgeries, mental health appointments, and social care settings.
* Legal/Justice: Police interviews, solicitor appointments, court hearings, and immigration/asylum interviews.
* Local Government: Housing, education, and welfare service meetings.
* Professional Conduct: Maintain strict adherence to the professional Code of Conduct for Public Service Interpreters, including principles of impartiality, accuracy, and absolute confidentiality.
* Cultural Mediation: Provide necessary cultural context to ensure effective communication, without offering advice or acting as an advocate.
* Preparation: Conduct necessary preparation for assignments, including researching complex or specialist terminology (e.g., medical, legal jargon) to maintain a professional standard.
* Administration: Manage a freelance schedule, respond promptly to assignment offers, and complete necessary administrative tasks (e.g., electronic sign-off, invoice submission) in a timely manner.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Language Proficiency
* Native Speaker: Native or near-native fluency in S'gaw Karen (all dialects accepted, please specify).
* English Proficiency: Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English (equivalent to a strong C1/C2 level).
* Clarity: Clear, audible speaking voice and excellent listening and comprehension skills in both languages.
