Job Description: Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor Location: Bury – Secondary School Contract: Full-time – Temporary / Temp to Permanent Start Date: After April – following Easter half term About the Role We are looking for a compassionate and motivated SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor to join a secondary school in Bury. This provision supports students who have been partly or fully excluded from mainstream education and require additional support to re-engage with learning and develop positive behaviours. You will work closely with students who may display challenging behaviours, supporting them both in the classroom and 1:1. Your role will involve promoting engagement, emotional regulation, and personal development in a safe and structured environment. Key Responsibilities * Support students with SEMH needs in classroom learning * Provide 1:1 support and mentoring for students who require extra guidance * Assist teachers in delivering lessons and structured activities * Encourage positive behaviour and help students manage emotions * Build trusting relationships with students to foster engagement and progress * Contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment The Ideal Candidate No prior experience is required; however, candidates must be comfortable working with challenging behaviours and possess transferable skills, such as: * Youth work or mentoring experience * Care or support work * Coaching or community work with children or young people * Behaviour support or SEMH-related experience * Any role involving working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals Key Skills and Qualities * Patience, resilience, and a calm approach * Strong communication and relationship-building skills * Ability to remain professional when managing challenging behaviour * Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop What the School Offers * A supportive and welcoming team environment * Training and development opportunities * The chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people * Temporary or temp-to-permanent opportunity for the right candidate Start Date: This role is to commence after April, following the Easter half term.
