Looking for a change of direction? Exciting opportunities have arisen for Band 3 Senior Endoscopy Assistants to join our friendly Endoscopy unit at West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties: To support registered staff in the direct and indirect care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures, such as gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, ERCP and urology clinics. The post holder will undertake additional clinical activities to that of the Band 3 Endoscopy Assistant and will contribute to the development of unregistered staff.
There will be a variety of shifts, some evenings and Saturday working, to meet Trust and Government targets. Following training, you will be expected to participate in the emergency out of hours on-call rota; to participate in the decontamination, traceability and maintenance of endoscopes and other specialised equipment used in endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures.

Responsibilities
* Clinical responsibilities
* Undertake an agreed range of clinical activities in line with defined competencies specific to the area, including but not limited to: measure and record blood glucose via capillary blood; recording and documenting clinical observations and reporting to senior nurse; assist with upper and lower GI endoscopic procedures; assist with bronchoscopy; assist with urology clinics; setting up, cleaning and decontamination of equipment.
* Adhere to infection control and waste disposal policies; follow COSHH and risk assessments; follow universal precautions in all patient care and handling of endoscopic equipment.
* Identify endoscopes required daily, prepare for use as per local and BSG guidelines; clean and decontaminate equipment in accordance with guidelines; maintain traceability records of all endoscopes, accessories and ancillaries.
* Participate in Endoscopy Training programmes; interpret and act on data relating to patient condition and progress; ensure safe practice to minimise infection risk; wear protective clothing as required.

* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues; answer the telephone and relay messages accurately; welcome patients and visitors professionally; work as a member of the endoscopy team and support colleagues; document clearly and concisely; contribute to induction, training and development of unit staff.

* Maintain accurate patient records; report repairs/maintenance issues; pursue Personal Development Plan and attend mandatory/in-service training; report stock deficiencies and assist in ordering supplies.
Person Specification
Education & Qualification
* Essential: Basic numeracy & literacy (A-C English & Maths); NVQ Level 3 or equivalent; BLS
* Desirable: AIMs
Experience & Knowledge
* Essential: Evidence of development; previous care experience
* Desirable: Endoscopy/decontamination experience
Skills & Abilities
* Essential: Well-developed communication skills; able to organise and carry out workload within training/competences; able to work in a team and independently
* Desirable: IV Cannulation

* Essential: Good time keeping and attendance; ambitious; uses own initiative; flexible; good team worker; occupational health clearance; able to participate in emergency on-call rota
