Key Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and direction to the care team in the home to ensure residents are supported to live in a safe, caring and stimulating environment.
* Conduct and record supervisions and appraisals with the care team, setting and reviewing objectives for development.
* Support the ongoing development of the care team, including acting as a mentor to home-employed care staff and students on placement.
* Contribute to team working, respond positively to colleagues and action all reasonable work instructions promptly.
* Attend relevant staff meetings and training as required.
* Collaborate with the care team to plan and deliver resident care; administer, receive and manage medications in accordance with company policy and regulations.
* Support the management team in implementing agreed clinical developments and ensure care is delivered in line with regulatory standards and legislation.
* Act as a contact for residents and relatives regarding care needs.
* Monitor standards of care via observation and direct involvement, ensuring quality personal care and up-to-date care plans.
* Ensure safe systems of work for care tasks, including moving and handling, by assessing risks and considering safety of residents, visitors and staff.
* Respond promptly to concerns such as safeguarding incidents and report to the nurse/management as soon as possible.
* Support the Home Manager with assessing prospective residents as needed and ensure compliance with health and safety measures related to residents’ care and comfort.
* Liaise with nursing team and other healthcare professionals to support residents with their health and care needs; communicate respectfully and maintain residents’ dignity and individuality.
* Monitor wellbeing of residents, noting changes that impact care and updating care plans accordingly; promote positive risk taking where appropriate.
Qualifications
* Minimum NVQ3 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification; leadership qualification.
* Proven experience of leading a care team.
* Passion for elderly/dementia care with a hands-on approach.
* Competent with basic computer software (e.g., Word, web-based systems).
* Effective verbal and written communication; ability to multi-task and prioritise workload; adaptable and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities.
