The role

This is a 9 month postdoc position that will be to continue our labs work developmentDrosophilamodels of CASK function and disease funded by https://caskresearch.org/cask-gene-disorders/. This will involve biomedical neuroscience lab work including fly behaviour, genetics, molecular and cell biology. You will also help make a patient registry of the disease whereby you will work in a team to try and find everybody with CASK mutations in the UK collecting genetic and symptomatic data. You will be part of a larger Neurodevelopment collaborative community at University of Bristol https://www.bristol.ac.uk/neuroscience/research/neurodevelopment/.

What will you be doing?

You will be organising, and conducting behavioural, molecular, and neuronal assays of fly CASK disease models assessing their memory, sleep, circadian rhythms and seizure phenotypes. You will be helping complete the CASK registry. You will be managing and interpreting data from these investigations and preparing professional communications. You will be actively contributing to the running of the research laboratory. Importantly, you will be communicating effectively with Prof James Hodge and members of his fly lab and Dr Sam Amin, members of his clinical team as well as the CASK research foundation to make the UK registry of the disease.

You should apply if

Essential

* Experience of formal presentation and/or publication of scientific research at a level that is appropriate for your current career stage.
* PhD (awarded or imminent) or equivalent in the biomedical sciences.
* Ability to keep good records of experimental data.
* Motivated and proactive approach to research, problem solving, and open science teamwork.
* Ability to troubleshoot work research methodologies or work difficulties.

Desirable

* Experience withDrosophila.
* Experience in behaviour and physiology.
* Experience with breeding/maintenance of genetically modified organisms.
* An appetite for/experience of working in interdisciplinarity teams and Clinical research.
* Aptitude for quantitative analysis of biological data sets.
* Motivation to support a positive research culture, engage in mentorship schemes, and participate in institutional post-doctoral research community.
