Salary
* Up to £58,500 for candidates who hold NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma (or equivalent) and have relevant industry and engineering experience.
* Circa £50,500 for candidates with a NEBOSH Level 3 General Certificate and relevant engineering or environmental experience, ideally working towards NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma.
* Where applicable, Southern Water will support progression to NEBOSH Level 6 as part of the role.
About The Role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join our Capital Delivery team within the wider Health, Safety and Security (HSS) function at Southern Water. In this key role, you will provide professional health and safety advice and assurance across engineering and capital delivery projects, supporting compliance with legislation and helping to embed a strong safety culture across our infrastructure development and maintenance activities.
You will work closely with engineering, design and project teams to influence safety from the earliest stages of project design, supporting HAZOP and safety design reviews, conducting site inspections as part of pre‑construction and commissioning phases, carrying out auditing activities on our contractor management systems, and monitoring safety performance and compliance with our CDM procedures, ensuring risks are effectively managed and lessons learned are shared.
What You Will Be Responsible For
* Delivering and monitoring performance against Southern Water’s Health, Safety and Security strategy and objectives within the Capital Delivery function.
* Providing expert health and safety advice to design, engineering and project teams, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry best practice and Southern Water standards.
* Leading site inspections, hazard identification activities and root cause investigations on capital delivery projects.
* Supporting and influencing engineering and design teams through practical coaching and mentoring to strengthen health and safety compliance and capability.
* Providing technical advice in high‑risk areas, including temporary works, Construction Design and Management (CDM), site set‑up, excavations, service avoidance, chemical storage and hazardous substances.
* Leading and supporting incident investigations within your area of responsibility, producing clear reports and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
Essential
* Comprehensive knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its practical application within design, planning and construction environments.
* Proven experience working in a health and safety advisory role, ideally within construction, engineering or capital delivery.
* NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma (or equivalent) qualification.
* Strong knowledge and application of CDM 2015 Regulations, especially from the client and Principal Designer perspective.
* Excellent communication skills, including investigation interviewing, report writing and the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders.
* Full UK driving licence, due to the multi‑site nature of the role.
Desirable
* Membership of IOSH at CertIOSH level as a minimum (CMIOSH or CFIOSH highly desirable).
* Exposure to process safety.
* An engineering background, particularly mechanical or electrical.
* Water Industry experience.
