Overview
Environmental Change Institute, School of Geography and the Environment, South Parks Road, OX1 3QY. The Environmental Change Institute (ECI), part of the School of Geography and the Environment (SoGE), is seeking a highly organised and proactive Project Assistant to support a range of local and international research projects within the Ecosystems Research Programme. Reporting to Professor Yadvinder Malhi, the Programme Leader, the post-holder will provide executive and logistical support to ensure the smooth delivery of research and outreach activities. This will include acting as a key contact for researchers undertaking fieldwork, resolving logistical issues, coordinating visits by external collaborators, and summarising weekly research meetings. The role also involves managing the borrowing and use of scientific equipment, overseeing financial processes, advising on risk assessments, and assisting with the organisation of workshops, conferences and events. In addition, the Project Assistant will support communications for the Programme, including newsletters, website content and social media, and will contribute to the design and production of promotional materials.
Responsibilities
* Provide executive and logistical support to ensure the smooth delivery of research and outreach activities.
* Act as a key contact for researchers undertaking fieldwork, resolve logistical issues, and coordinate visits by external collaborators.
* Summarise weekly research meetings and manage the borrowing and use of scientific equipment.
* Oversee financial processes, advise on risk assessments, and assist with the organisation of workshops, conferences and events.
* Support communications for the Programme, including newsletters, website content and social media, and contribute to the design and production of promotional materials.
Qualifications and Skills
* Strong educational background with excellent organisational and analytical skills; ability to work independently with initiative and accuracy.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement, and discretion when handling confidential information.
* Good IT and numerical skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure.
* Experience in managing social media or communications, alongside marketing or design skills, and an interest in natural history or ecological science (advantage).
Contract
This post is fixed-term for 2 years and offered on a part-time basis (16.87 hours / 45% FTE).
