What are we looking for?

The Assistant Farm Manager supports the Farm Manager in the daily operations of the egg‑laying poultry farm, ensuring high standards of bird health, welfare, and egg production. The role involves flock management, team coordination, performance monitoring, and compliance with welfare and biosecurity standards. The Assistant Farm Manager helps maintain smooth operations and supports staff to achieve production targets.


Key Accountabilities of the role – IT: What I do

* Flock Management and Egg Production – support monitoring of hen health, welfare, and productivity; track daily egg production, mortality, feed intake, and weight gain; manage lighting, ventilation, temperature, and environmental conditions.
* Vaccination and Disease Prevention – assist in implementing vaccination and disease prevention programmes.
* Biosecurity and Animal Welfare – enforce biosecurity procedures, ensure team adherence to welfare guidelines, maintain hygiene and cleanliness across facilities.
* Feed and Nutrition Management – monitor feed deliveries, storage, usage; check feed quality and ensure correct rations for each production phase.
* Team Leadership and Development – organise staff rota and task allocation; train team members on farm procedures, hygiene, animal handling, and safety; support Farm Manager with staff performance monitoring.
* Record Keeping and Reporting – collect and maintain accurate records (egg production, flock performance, feed usage); use farm management software and manual logs for reporting and KPI tracking.
* Facility and Equipment Management – monitor condition of farm equipment, report issues, and support preventative maintenance activities.

Health & Safety responsibilities

* Ensure team members follow health and safety policies and procedures.
* Identify and assess health and safety risks; implement control measures.
* Investigate and report hazards, incidents, or injuries to a manager.
* Provide necessary personal protective equipment and clothing.
* Monitor and review health and safety performance; take corrective actions.
* Conduct health and safety training and induction for the team.


Social & Environmental responsibilities

* Ensure team members understand and comply with company policies on sustainability, ethics, diversity and inclusion, and health and safety.
* Provide feedback, coaching, and recognition for social and environmental performance.
* Identify and implement initiatives to improve social and environmental outcomes and support company strategy and reporting.

* Effective team coordination and support; ability to motivate and guide staff in daily operations.
* Strong observational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; support decision‑making on flock health and production performance.
* Working knowledge of modern layer farm systems and equipment; ability to monitor performance, identify issues, and escalate as needed.
* Clear and confident communication skills, both verbal and written, to ensure accurate reporting and information flow.
* Good organisational skills; ability to prioritise tasks and support smooth operations.
* Understanding of animal welfare, biosecurity, and compliance standards; ability to enforce procedures.
* Basic IT literacy; ability to use farm management software and digital reporting tools.
