Job Summary
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic RGN to join our friendly and highly skilled nursing team. The unit has 30 Dialysis stations where our patients attend for dialysis 3 times a week. We are located approximately 1 mile away from the main Derriford site and in Estover. We are a Nurse Led unit offering patient-centred care to 170 patients from Devon and Cornwall. We have satellite dialysis units at Kingsbridge and Saltash. We are committed to providing a supportive learning environment for all of our nurses, and you will be encouraged to develop mentoring of students and new staff. We are working in partnership with Plymouth University to provide specialist renal training to nurses who wish to undertake further academic training.
Working Hours
* Monday-Saturday Early shift 06:30-14:30
* Late shift 12:00-20:00
* Twilight shift 16:00-00:00 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
* LD 6:30-20:00
Main duties
* Coordinate and deliver high standard specialist nursing care; ensure the area runs smoothly and efficiently.
* Provide clinical expertise as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Supervise and direct junior nursing staff, healthcare assistants and learners.
* Take part in ward/haemodialysis rotation to provide specialist renal treatments using complex dialysis equipment.
* In the absence of Ward Sister/Deputy, assume responsibility for the ward/unit following Trust standards, policies and procedures.
* Provide leadership and act as a role model for other staff.
* Contribute to risk management, including clinical and financial aspects.
Person Specification – Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
* Essential: Demonstrable post-registration experience in a relevant clinical area.
* Essential: Proven evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development.
* Essential: Demonstrable intravenous therapy skills and venepuncture skills.
* Desirable: Cannulation experience; ECG recording/basic interpretation skills.
* Essential: NMC Registration.
* Desirable: Mentors Course.
Abilities & Aptitude
* Essential: Good communication skills (written and verbal), numerate, and effective influencing skills.
* Desirable: Potential management abilities; ability to facilitate change in the work area.
