Job opening for Children in Care Nurse at East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust (Cambridge). Closing date 24 June 2026.
Responsibilities
* Assess, plan and implement holistic health care plans for children and young people up to age 25, inclusive of statutory health assessments.
* Establish and maintain effective communication links with young people, parents/carers, social care staff and a range of voluntary and statutory professionals.
* Listen to and take account of sensitive issues, communicate disclosures to appropriate agencies ensuring safeguarding measures are enacted.
* Maintain accurate electronic and written records and provide reports as requested by Service Leads.
* Utilise electronic communication methods to liaise with colleagues and managers.
* Identify relevant health and social issues within the cohort of young people leaving care.
* Recognise indicators of child and adult abuse and initiate safeguarding measures in line with policies of the trust and local safeguarding boards.
* Undertake community visits, including some outside normal working hours, in accordance with the EEC Lone Workers Policy.
* Participate in policy development, update guidelines and standard operating procedures.
* Take appropriate action in suspected or actual child abuse cases and work closely with Health Visitors, School Nurses and the Trust Safeguarding Team.
* Undertake any other duties as required by the Service Manager or Named Nurse.
* Adhere to the NMC Code and the trust’s policies.

* Internal: Named Nurse for Children in Care, Service Manager for Children in Care, members of 0-19 teams, safeguarding leads, primary health care team, health promotion, child health departments, child development centres, community paediatricians, all directorates within EEC, child and adolescent mental health, commissioners and practice based commissioning team.
* External: Children’s Services, Education, Police, Bedfordshire Local Authority, Family and Children Centres, acute providers, midwifery services, youth offending team, community care team and voluntary agencies.
Person specification
Qualifications and training
* NMC registration.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Knowledge of child development.
* MSPP/ENB 998 or other relevant teaching/assessment qualification.
* SCPHN qualification (health visitor or school nurse).
Experience
* Interest in health promotion, child health and family support.
* Experience working within the 0-19 Service.
* Experience of undertaking statutory health assessments for Children in Care.
* Awareness of confidentiality issues.
* Evidence of assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of care plans.
* Experience working in healthcare or early years setting with multi-disciplinary teams.
* Good understanding of social and cultural sensitivities that may affect children and families.
Knowledge and skills
* Written and oral communication skills, record keeping, report writing, data collection and evaluation; IT literate and knowledge of MS applications.
* Ability to communicate effectively with young children and their parents/carers, good interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills.
* Evidence of critical reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
* Understanding of NHS and current health policies and priorities.
* Good time management and ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
* Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and independently using initiative.
* Ability to communicate with people from different ethnic groups consistently with cultural understanding.
* Presentation, audit and evaluation skills, advanced IT skills (MS Word, Excel, SystmOne).
* Ability to identify and develop health promotion activities.
