Informal Queries

For informal queries, please contact Professor Julie Macpherson at j.macpherson@warwick.ac.uk or Professor Reinhard Maurer at r.maurer@warwick.ac.uk.

About The Role

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join a project on computational discovery of electrochemical deposition processes in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick as part of the groups of Prof. Reinhard Maurer and Prof. Julie Macpherson. The postdoctoral fellowship is part of the EPSRC‑funded EXPRESS Programme Grant, ’Exploiting Single Source Precursors for the Electrochemical Growth of Functional 1D and 2D Metal Dichalcogenide Semiconductors’. EXPRESS is an interdisciplinary 5‑year research programme led jointly by the Universities of Warwick and Southampton, bringing together leading teams from chemistry, physics and electronic engineering. The Programme aims to deliver a step‑change in the understanding and control of electrochemical growth of functional TMDC semiconductors, combining precursor design and synthesis, electrochemistry, solution and surface computation, advanced characterisation and device integration.

Responsibilities

* Perform first‑principles based simulations for the description of nucleation and growth of two‑dimensional materials and metal nanostructures.
* Interact effectively with colleagues across the wider EXPRESS consortium to fulfil scientific goals of the Programme.
* Collaborate across disciplines, contributing to research outputs and training PhD and Masters students.

About You

* Background in computational chemistry, theoretical condensed matter physics or a related field.
* Enjoy working on hard problems at the boundary of method development and application research.
* Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
* Skill in communicating across disciplines and cultures.
* Well‑developed organisational skills for training students.

PhD Status

* If near submission of your PhD, offers will be at Research Assistant level (highest point of pay grade 5, £34,610 per annum).
* Upon successful award of your PhD, promotion to Research Fellow (lowest point of grade 6, £35,608 per annum).

About The Department

In the Maurer research group we develop computational simulation methodology to study quantum phenomena at surfaces with applications ranging from plasmonic catalysis to nanotechnology and electrochemistry. The group is one of seven computational chemistry groups in Warwick’s Centre for Computational and Theoretical Chemistry (CaTCh). The Macpherson group is part of the Warwick Electrochemistry & Interfaces Group (WEIG), which is internationally leading in frontier instrumental techniques with applications in electrochemistry, electrocatalysis, electrodeposition, energy research, sensor systems, material characterization and the life sciences.

About The University

We are a world‑leading research‑intensive university founded in 1965. We are ranked 74th in the world and 9th in the UK, with 92% of our research rated world‑leading or internationally excellent. Explore our webpages to learn more about the Department of Chemistry’s research and teaching, industry‑leading facilities, and the impact of our work.

How to Apply
