Project: Community Cohesion Champions – The Power of 3Cs for a Stronger Walsall

Organisation: Walsall For All CIC

Location: Community venues across Walsall

Commitment: Flexible, minimum 20 hours (Nov–Dec We will work with you to make sure your volunteering fits your availability and life commitments.

Training: 12-hour structured programme (Oct 2025)

Support Provided: Mentoring, supervision and well-being support

Start Date: October 2025 (training begins)

Are you passionate about making Walsall a more inclusive, connected and welcoming place? Do you want to build your skills, meet new people and make a real difference in your community?

WFA CIC is recruiting 10 Community Cohesion Champions (volunteers) who will be trained and supported to lead local engagement activities, promote cultural awareness and help residents feel safe and included.

Purpose of the Role:

As a Community Cohesion Champion, you will use your lived experience, passion and local knowledge to build trust, strengthen connections between people and ensure that every voice in Walsall is heard. You will help identify barriers, shape solutions and co-create inclusive, community-led approaches to improving wellbeing and cohesion across the Borough.

* Builds Community by empowering voices and connecting people
* Drives Cohesion by fostering trust, understanding, and inclusion
* Becomes a Champion by standing up for fairness and co-producing change

Together, the power of the 3Cs is how we build a stronger, fairer Walsall from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities:

* Be a Voice for Your Community: Listen to residents and share their experiences and concerns with services and decision-makers.
* Build Bridges: Strengthen relationships between different communities, helping people connect, understand each other and work together.
* Identify Gaps and Opportunities: Explore what already exists in the community, where the gaps are and what could be done differently.
* Create Safe Spaces: Support engagement activities in trusted, welcoming places where people already gather.
* Co-Produce Solutions: Collaborate with services, local organisations and residents to shape new and existing support that reflects real needs.
* Champion Cultural Understanding: Help improve how services relate to and understand different communities by supporting training and development.
* Promote Inclusion and Resilience: Support individuals and groups to access services and overcome barriers to wellbeing.
* Share Learning Across the Borough: Work with other Champions and partners to develop a shared understanding and collective action.
* Advocate for Social Justice: Speak up for fairness, dignity, and equitable access to services, especially for people and communities who are often overlooked or underserved.
* Challenge Constructively: Advocate for fairness and dignity in conversations with professionals, contributing to more accountable systems.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualities Needed:

* A passion for helping people and improving community life.
* Confidence to speak up and listen deeply to others.
* Ability to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
* Respect for confidentiality and safeguarding.
* Willingness to learn, including how services work and how change happens.
* Digital literacy or openness to training (e.g. email, basic surveys).
* Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
* A commitment to inclusion, dignity, and fairness.

Support You Will Receive:

* Full induction and relevant training (e.g. community engagement, cultural competence).
* Ongoing support and supervision from Walsall for All staff and partners.
* Opportunities to connect and collaborate with other Champions.
* Reimbursement of agreed, pre-approved expenses.
* Access to wellbeing support.
* DBS check provided where needed.
