About the Role
Balfour Beatty is excited to offer an opportunity for a Senior Planning Engineer to join our dynamic Power Transmission & Distribution business unit. If you are passionate about planning and delivering impactful infrastructure projects, this is your chance to make a real difference.
What you’ll be doing
* Ensuring that the programme content is functionally compliant with the planning procedures and guidance.
* Identifying planning scope, major constraints, and contract requirements alongside identifying major quantities and factors affecting the programme.
* Using advanced expertise to collaboratively develop and agree on a strategic and optimised sequence and methodology, ensuring the most efficient design, procurement, and construction strategy for delivery of the works.
* Producing and documenting comprehensive planning deliverables, including programmes, philosophies, presentations and reports. Developing the Tender Programme and supporting information, ensuring strict adherence to tender requirements.
* At the contract stage, managing the Contract Programme and collaborating closely with the Planning/Project Lead to optimise strategic planning elements.
* Displaying and evaluating the project critical path, advising the project team of the results and any appropriate corrective action, producing and maintaining project baselines, and executing the change control process.
* Managing labour, equipment and materials efficiently to meet project objectives while minimising costs.
* Managing contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, monitoring performance and resolving contract‑related issues.
* Providing strategic planning oversight, developing and implementing intricate scheduling techniques, mentoring less experienced planners and contributing significantly to project success through strategic planning insights.
* Producing project data and key performance indicators to track progress, identify deviations and make data‑driven decisions for project improvement.
Who we’re looking for
* Advanced competence in project management tools and software such as Excel, MS Project, Primavera P6 or ASTA.
* Comprehensive understanding of construction project management principles, methodologies and best practices.
* Advanced knowledge in project scheduling and planning, and the ability to develop and manage complex project schedules using industry‑standard tools.
* Knowledge of various tender and contract documents and specifications.
* Knowledge of risk management in project programmes (e.g. TRA, QSRA).
* Experience in managing relationships with clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders, demonstrating effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience leading planning efforts for construction projects, with a track record of successful project delivery.
